6 Reasons to Visit Africa (there are countless)

“Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is God’s handwriting.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

At the base of the slopes of magnificent Mount Meru, I met the tail end of a rainy season and the ankle deep mud of rolling foothills in a sprawling and aromatic coffee plantation.High above bustling Arusha, Tanzania and hours from paved roads, I immersed myself in the silence and the challenge.

The latter is an understatement. The village of small scale farms, lush banana fields, and traditional mountain homesteads against a breathtaking background was a balm for the seeking soul.

The spirit of the people had such a blinding beauty, it eclipsed all disparity.I can not say I did not trudge through the hardness.Nor did I not get squeamish eating the hairy pork I had been petting.  I grew weary of no running water. I missed my bed and the sun.But I hugged the babies hard.I squatted by the fire and stirred. I was succored by their affirming day to day.

I bless the rains down in Africa.

Visiting Africa often leaves travelers profoundly transformed, as the continent touches their hearts in ways that resonate long after they return home.

I can attest to that.

The experience is a symphony of sights, sounds, and emotions that simply goes deeper into humility AND humanity.
And to experience it is to never forget.

Africa is a bucket list trip for so many of you and my preferred partner is Hills of Africa that will customize any version of the vast beauty and tapestry of this gorgeous continent.

But here are 6 ideas for to get started on.

  1. For those whose main wish is to experience Safari and all the animals – a trip around Kenya – the birthplace of Safari is a great place to start,
  2. For those adventurous travelers who want a challenge, they can plan an adventure around a climb to Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Conquer Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). The climb is challenging but requires no technical skills, making it accessible for adventurous travelers.
3. And of course, witnessing the Great Migration, one of nature’s most incredible spectacles, as millions of wildebeests, zebras, and antelopes journey across the Serengeti and Maasai Mara.

4. In Kenya and Tanzania, you can watch river crossings in Grumeti (Tanzania) and the Mara River (Kenya), where predators await, and experience luxury tented camps in the heart of the action.

5. There has been many a guest who has been brought to tears while witnessing their very first Gorilla Trek in Rwanda or Uganda.
Getting up close and personal with these magical creatures is an unforgettable experience.

6. Visit Victoria Falls, one of the world’s largest and most awe-inspiring waterfalls.
For those who are adrenaline junkies, not only being able to see the falls, but experience heart-pumping activities, such as: taking a scenic helicopter flight, bungee jumping over the Zambezi River or swimming in the Devil’s Pool right on the edge of the falls.
