Caribbean Islands Open Borders

I think the islands need their visitors,”  announced USVI Tourism Commissioner Bochulte. And we visitors need them…now more than ever.

An extensive archipelago known for its stunning emerald isles, turquoise waters, and balmy temperatures, the territory attracted more than 30 million visitors in 2019, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.
And it is not surprise that so many of these islands, relying on tourism are eager to open their doors.

Synonymous with a laid back lifestyle and bottomless rum punch, the Caribbean has a reputation. However, the larger tale of enslavement, emancipation, and redemption that courses through the blood of the African descended majority is what makes these islands become a piece of you forever. That is, if you let it.

Airlines are increasing flights to this beloved territory. Following the USVI, Antigua opened yesterday with one American Airlines flight from Miami. Jamaica and Grenada also intend to reopen in June and all the major airlines  including JetBlue are expanding into the Caribbean in July.

This isn’t a political post. It’s a love story. A homage to a fight I have never had to fight. A tribute to a voice that has gone unheard. It is an anthem that we all should shout out loud. Love has no bias. One love at home. One love abroad. One love.

Won’t you help to sing these songs of freedom?

United States Virgin Islands

St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas opened for their long awaited leisure visitors! The US Virgin Islands are the first Caribbean destination to officially reopen for tourism and I’m feeling IRIE for my old home.  Virgin Islanders are proud and  fiercely loyal. If they trust you, they love you!  Guests wanting to acquaint themselves with these gems can fly into Cyril E. King Airport (STT) in St. Thomas or Henry E Rohlsen Airport (STX) in St. Croix.

Antigua

A genuine friendliness is how I would describe the vibe and people of Antigua. The Island is an authentic experience from beginning to end. Calypso and Cricket are life. One flight in and one flight out of VC Bird International Airport (ANU) for the lucky ones. Bless up!

Grenada

The Spice Island! Just pulling into port, you can smell the aroma. This is the spot for fresh nutmeg and flavorful food. Grenadians have a calm and welcoming nature that will have you limin’ beside the, Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND) is small and easy and is an airport that transports you to vacation mode immediately.

Jamaica

What can I say about Jamaica? This island and its people also stole my heart 20+ years ago. If you haven’t met a humble heart, you haven’t met a Jamaican. Service is their second language. Two choices for flying into JamRock. Sangster International Airport (MBJ) and Kingston-Norman Manley Airport (KIN)
